Help With Funding
It is not commonly known that help is available for people to fund their own care, even if that care is arranged on a private basis.
Self-Directed Support for free personal care
Direct payments can be made to individuals to allow them to make use of the free personal care provided by the Scottish Government
and administered through the local authority social work department. Free personal care is available to anyone aged over 65 who has
been assessed as having a need. It is non-means tested, so it is available to those who need it, regardless of income, capital or
assets.
To receive Self-Directed Support, you must undergo an assessment of your needs by the local social work department. After this
assessment you will know how much care the local authority will pay for. At this point you can decide if you wish them to provide
care directly or if you would prefer to make your own arrangements through a private provider like ourselves.
Being in receipt of an
amount of free personal care will not make any difference to your entitlement to Attendance Allowance or Disability Living Allowance.
Personal
care includes help with the following:
Personal hygiene
Continence management
Food and diet
Problems with mobility
Counselling and support
Simple treatments
